Slept awful last night. I only had one comfortable enough sleeping position, and I was still in pain anyway. Woke up extremely sore. I may need to sleep on the couch instead using a ton of pillows to prop my body into whatever strange sleeping position I need in order to not be in constant pain while trying to sleep. At least sitting up isn't a pain, and I could even do a bit of cleaning around the house. Not much, but I'm not so useless.
Getting back into the tech side of things, I'm experimenting some more. I first looked at Jekyll, but it looks like it's a Ruby thing. Nothing wrong with ruby, but it's not something I currently know, and I would just have some of the same potential issues I have with Zola and Rust right now. So I'm looking at Hexo now. It seems similar enough, but based on Javascript, and has a few nicities that I might enjoy more. It also has a lot more support, some more theme. At this point though I just need to stick with something altogether or else this may end up being a static blog generator review blog.
My first impressions of Hexo compared to Zola is that it is potentially more configurable, but not documented as well. It's also a bit more... I guess... command heavy? It has a nice drafting/publishing system, but it's nothing that I can't already do in Zola. I've decided just to stick with Zola for now. If I start running into an issue that I can't handle in this framework with out really modifying anything, I'll look into swtiching. I guess part of the problem is I don't know what I want yet, and I'm letting what may be possible distracting me from what I need to do now. A bad habit I guess.
My goal for today, which should be done with publishing this is:
- Choosing a theme for the site so it's a little less basic
- A bit of the outside info (about/etc) so everything's a little less bare
- A todo list so I have an idea of what I really want.
Problem is all of the themes... I just don't like them. I'll tweak the CSS for a bit on that. But at least I can get some basic contact info type stuff up. And I can tweak the CSS a little. I'll probably take a theme from another generator, tweak it to work with Zola, and use that. And likely modify it for my own likes. It's a process.
